✧ Mention of the death of Ḥasnūyah al-Kurdī In this year, Ḥasnūyah b. al-Ḥusayn al-Kurdī al-Barzīkānī died at Sarmāj. He was the commander of an army of the Barzīkān, who are called al-Barzīnīyah. His maternal uncles, Wandād and Ghānim, the two sons of Aḥmad, were commanders of another group of them called al-ʿAyshānīyah. They gained control over the outskirts of the regions of al-Dīnawar, Hamadhān, Nahāwand, al-Ṣāmaghān, and some of the outskirts of Adharbayjān up to the border of Shahrazūr for about fifty years. Each of them led several thousand men. Ghānim died in the year 350 AH, and his son Abū Sālim Daysam b. Ghānim took his place in his fortress of Qisān until Abū al-Fatḥ b. al-ʿAmīd removed him and took over his fortresses named Qisnān, Ghānim Ābādh, and others. Wandād b. Aḥmad died in the year 349 AH, and his son Abū al-Ghanāʾim ʿAbd al-Wahhāb took his place until al-Shādhan Khān captured him, and they handed him over to Ḥasnūyah, who took his fortresses and properties. Ḥasnūyah was fortunate, of good policy and conduct, firmly in control of his affairs. He prevented his followers from banditry. He built the fortress of Sarmāj with fitted stones, and built a mosque in al-Dīnawar on this pattern. He was very generous in almsgiving to the two Holy Sanctuaries, until he died in this year. His sons parted ways after him: some of them went over to Fakhr al-Dawlah, and some to ʿAḍud al-Dawlah. They were Abū al-ʿAlāʾ, ʿAbd al-Razzāq, Abū al-Najm Badr, ʿĀṣim, Abū ʿAdnān, Bakhtiyār, and ʿAbd al-Malik. Bakhtiyār was at the fortress of Sarmāj, with him the wealth and treasures. He corresponded with ʿAḍud al-Dawlah and desired to obey him, but then he wavered and changed. So ʿAḍud al-Dawlah sent an army against him, besieged him, and took his fortress, as well as the fortresses of his other brothers. Among them, he favored Abū al-Najm Badr b. Ḥasnūyah and strengthened him with men, so he secured those regions, restrained the aggression of the Kurds there, and his affairs became stable. He was intelligent.
