✧ Mention of several events In this year, in Jumādā al-Ūlā, the daughter of ʿIzz al-Dawla Bakhtiyār was conveyed to al-Ṭāʾiʿ li-llāh, and he married her. The increase of the Tigris in Ramaḍān, which is the twenty-fifth of Nīsān, reached twenty-one cubits, and a breach burst open at al-Ẓāhir and another at Bāb al-Tibn. In Shawwāl: Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Shāhaweyh, the leader of the Qarāmiṭa, arrived at al-Kūfa with a thousand of their men, and he established the call there and in Sūrā and al-Nīl for al-Ṭāʾiʿ li-llāh and for ʿAḍud al-Dawla. There was a battle between ʿAḍud al-Dawla and ʿIzz al-Dawla, in which a Turkish ghulām of ʿIzz al-Dawla was captured who had not previously been among his most favored ghulāms nor among those closest to him, yet he went mad over him with a madness, and grieved over him with a severe grief, and consoled himself about everything except him, and his composure disappeared, and he cast aside rest, and he refused food and drink, and he gave himself over to weeping, and he secluded himself from people. Whenever his vizier or his commanders reached him, he cut them off with complaint over what had befallen him, and he forbade himself from sitting on bedding and cushions. He wrote to ʿAḍud al-Dawla asking him to return the ghulām [to him], and he wrote to his close associates surrounding him asking them to assist him in what he desired of him regarding it. Thus he became a laughingstock among the people, and people reproached him, but he did not desist. He sent the Sharīf Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥusayn b. Mūsā as an envoy to him concerning this matter, and he offered him [on his behalf] as ransom for the ghulām two singing slave girls who had no equal, and for one of them a hundred thousand had been offered, but he had refused to sell her. He said to him: "If this matter of ransom stops with you, then add what you deem fit, and do not think about what is between me and ʿAḍud al-Dawla except concerning this ghulām, for I have accepted that I take him and go to the farthest part of the earth." When he delivered the message, ʿAḍud al-Dawla ordered the return of the ghulām. In this year: Abū ʿAbd Allāh Aḥmad b. Abī al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd Allāh al-ʿAlawī led the people in the pilgrimage, and likewise until the year 380. In this year, the Maghāriba were given the khuṭba in the city of our master, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Among the pilgrims of this year was Jamīla bt. Nāṣir al-Dawla Abū Muḥammad b. Ḥamdān, and with her were her two brothers Ibrāhīm and Hibat Allāh. Her pilgrimage became proverbial, for she brought along four hundred camels bearing several palanquins, and it was not known in which one she was. She scattered upon the Kaʿba when she saw it ten thousand dinars struck by her father, and she clothed the residents of the two sanctuaries, and she spent vast sums of money. Her brother was killed on the road, so she gave alms for his blood. In it, the caliph al-Ṭāʾiʿ consummated his marriage with Shāh Nāz bt. ʿIzz al-Dawla b. Buwayh, and it was a splendid wedding.
