Translation
✧ Account of the return of Ibn al-Jabbār and his killing, and the return of al-Muʾayyad When Ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār went into hiding, he traveled secretly to Ṭulayṭilah, and Wāḍiḥ al-Fatā al-ʿĀmirī came to him with his companions, and he gathered the Christians for him and marched with them to Qurṭubah. Sulaymān went out against them, and they met near ʿAqabat al-Baqar, and they fought a most severe battle. Sulaymān and those with him were defeated in the middle of Shawwāl in the year four hundred, and Sulaymān went to Shāṭibah, while Ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār entered Qurṭubah and renewed the oath of allegiance to himself, and he made the office of chamberlain over to Wāḍiḥ and acted with full discretion. Then a group of the ʿĀmirid youths, among them ʿAnbar and Khayrūn and others, who were with Sulaymān, sent to Ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār requesting that he accept their obedience and include them among his men. He agreed to that, but they did so only as a stratagem against him in order to kill him. When they entered Qurṭubah, they won over Wāḍiḥ, who agreed to kill him. On the ninth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year four hundred, they gathered in the palace and seized it, and they took Ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār prisoner. They brought out al-Muʾayyad billāh and seated him on the throne of the caliphate and gave him the oath of allegiance. They brought Ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār before him, and he enumerated his sins against him, then he was killed, and his head was paraded around Qurṭubah. His age was thirty-three years, and his mother was an umm walad. It would have been appropriate for us to mention these events later, but we have brought them forward because some of them are connected with others, and because each of them did not have a duration long enough for his reports to be delayed and separated.
