✧ Mention of the disturbance of Kirmān against ʿAḍud al-Dawlah and its return to him In this year, the people of Kirmān opposed ʿAḍud al-Dawlah. The reason for that was that a man from the Jurūmiyyah, which are the lands, called Ṭāhir b. al-Ṣimmah, had taken on guarantees from ʿAḍud al-Dawlah, and much wealth had accumulated upon him, so he coveted it. ʿAḍud al-Dawlah had marched to Iraq and sent his vizier al-Muṭahhar b. ʿAbd Allāh to ʿUmān to seize it, so Kirmān was emptied of troops. Ṭāhir gathered the Jurūmī men and others, and a great multitude assembled to him. It happened that one of the Sāmānid Turks, named Yūztamar, had become alienated from Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. Sīmjūr, the commander of the army of Khurāsān for the Sāmānids. Ṭāhir wrote to him and made him covet the districts of Kirmān, so he marched to him and they agreed. Yūztamar was the emir. It happened that the Jurūmī men rioted against Yūztamar, and he thought that Ṭāhir had set them on, so they fell out and fought. Yūztamar prevailed over Ṭāhir and captured him, and prevailed over his companions. The news reached al-Ḥusayn b. Abī ʿAlī b. Ilyās, who was in Khurāsān, and he coveted the lands. He gathered a force and marched to them, and many multitudes gathered to him there. Then al-Muṭahhar b. ʿAbd Allāh seized ʿUmān and its mountains, fell upon the Khawārij there, and returned. A letter from ʿAḍud al-Dawlah reached him from Baghdādh ordering him to march to Kirmān. He marched there in earnest, and on his way he fell upon the people of mischief and corruption, killed them and crucified them, and mutilated them. He reached Yūztamar at a time of his heedlessness, and they fought on the outskirts of the city of Bamm. Yūztamar was defeated and entered the city, and al-Muṭahhar besieged him in a fortress in the middle of the city. He sought safe-conduct, and al-Muṭahhar granted it. He came out to him with Ṭāhir, and al-Muṭahhar ordered Ṭāhir to be paraded, then his neck was struck. As for Yūztamar, he was taken up to the citadels, and that was the last he was heard of. Al-Muṭahhar marched against al-Ḥusayn b. Ilyās and saw the great number of those with him. He feared their side, but found no alternative to meeting them. They fought a fierce battle, and al-Ḥusayn was defeated at the gate of Jīruft. His army was defeated, but the city wall prevented them from fleeing, so killing among them was heavy. Al-Ḥusayn was taken prisoner and brought before al-Muṭahhar, and no news of him was known thereafter. Kirmān was set right for ʿAḍud al-Dawlah.
