Translation

✧ Mention of Abū al-Barakāt b. Ḥamdān's aiming for Mayyāfāriqīn and his defeat In this year, in Dhū al-Qaʿdah, Abū al-Barakāt b. Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān marched with his army to Mayyāfāriqīn. The wife of Sayf al-Dawlah closed the gates of the town in his face and prevented him from entering it. He sent to her saying: "I intended nothing but the raid," and he asked her for what he could use as support. It was settled between them that she would send him two hundred thousand dirhams and hand over to him villages that had belonged to Sayf al-Dawlah near Naṣībīn. Then it appeared to her that he was secretly working to enter the town, so she sent to those with him from the ghilmān of Sayf al-Dawlah, saying to them: "It is not right for your master that you do this to his women and children." So they desisted from fighting and the aim. Then she gathered foot soldiers and made a night attack on Abū al-Barakāt, and he was routed, and his baggage and army were plundered, and a group of his companions and ghilmān were killed. He corresponded with her: "I did not intend any evil." She replied with a gracious response and returned to him some of what had been plundered from him, and she sent him one hundred thousand dirhams, and released the captives, so he withdrew from her. Her son (Abū al-Maʿālī b.) Sayf al-Dawlah was over Aleppo fighting Qarghawayh, the ghulām of his father.
