✧ Mention of the arrest of Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān In this year, Abū Taghlib b. Nāṣir al-Dawlah arrested his father and imprisoned him in the citadel on Saturday night, six nights remaining of Jumādā al-Ūlā. The reason for his arrest was that he had grown old and his character had deteriorated, and he had constrained his sons and companions, opposing them in their goals for the sake of advantage, so they became weary of him. Among the things in which he opposed them was that when Muʿizz al-Dawlah died, his sons resolved to head for Iraq and seize it from Bakhtiyār, but he forbade them and said to them: "Muʿizz al-Dawlah has left behind wealth with which his son will strengthen himself against you, so be patient until he disperses what he has of wealth, then march against him and distribute the funds, for you will surely prevail over him." Then Abū Taghlib leaped upon him and arrested him, carried him up to the citadel, and assigned someone to serve him, (and attend to his needs and whatever he required). When he did that, some of his brothers opposed him, and their affairs which had united them became dispersed, and their utmost aim became preserving what was in their hands. Abū Taghlib found himself obliged to placate ʿIzz al-Dawlah Bakhtiyār and renew the contract of guarantee in order to use it as an argument against his brothers and those behind him. So he guaranteed the lands for one million two hundred thousand dirhams each year.
