✧ Account of the defeat of Ibrāhīm b. al-Marzubān In this year, Ibrāhīm b. al-Marzubān was defeated in Adharbayjān and fled to al-Rayy. The reason for that was that when Ibrāhīm was defeated by Justān b. Sharmazan, as we mentioned in the year 349 AH, he headed for Armenia and began preparing and equipping himself to return to Adharbayjān. The kings of Armenia were from the Armenians and the Kurds, and he corresponded with Justān b. Sharmazan and made peace with him, and many people came to him. It happened that Ismāʿīl, the son of his paternal uncle Wahsūdhān, died, so Ibrāhīm marched to Ardabīl and took possession of it. Abū al-Qāsim b. Masīkī went over to Wahsūdhān and sided with him. Ibrāhīm marched against his paternal uncle Wahsūdhān, demanding vengeance for his brothers. His uncle Wahsūdhān feared him, and he and Ibn Masīkī went to the land of al-Daylam. Ibrāhīm took control of his uncle's territories, plundered his followers, and seized his wealth that he found. Wahsūdhān gathered men and returned to his fortress at al-Ṭarm, and he sent Abū al-Qāsim b. Masīkī with the armies against Ibrāhīm. Ibrāhīm met them, and they fought a fierce battle. Ibrāhīm was defeated, and the pursuers followed him but did not catch him. He traveled alone until he reached al-Rayy, to Rukn al-Dawlah. Rukn al-Dawlah honored him and treated him well, and he was the husband of Ibrāhīm's sister, so he went to great lengths in honoring him for that reason, and bestowed upon him abundant gifts and presents.
