Translation

✧ Mention of the illness of Muʿizz al-Dawlah and what Ibn Shāhīn did In Dhū al-Qaʿdah of the year 343 [AH], Muʿizz al-Dawlah was afflicted with an illness called farīyāfasmās, which is persistent erection with severe pain in his penis, along with tautness of his nerves. Muʿizz al-Dawlah was feeble in his illnesses, so people spread rumors about him, and Baghdād was disturbed. He was compelled to ride, and he rode in Dhū al-Ḥijjah despite the severity of his illness. When it was Muḥarram of the year 344 AH, he made a will to his son Bakhtiyār, entrusting him with authority after him, and made him amīr al-umarāʾ. It reached ʿImrān b. Shāhīn that Muʿizz al-Dawlah had died, and wealth being carried to Muʿizz al-Dawlah from al-Ahwāz passed by him, accompanied by many merchants. He went out against them and took everything. When Muʿizz al-Dawlah recovered, he corresponded with Ibn Shāhīn about the matter. He returned to him what he had taken for him, but kept the merchants' wealth. The peace between them was annulled, and that was in Muḥarram.
