Translation
✧ Death occurred among the livestock and illnesses among the people, and fevers and joint pain became widespread, and the high prices continued until those who had adorned themselves were exposed, and the poor perished, and the people needed to pray for rain, and a strange dream was seen. Abū Muḥammad al-Ṣilḥī the scribe said: A crier of al-Muttaqī [billāh] called out during his caliphate in the markets that the Commander of the Faithful says to you, O his subjects: A righteous woman saw the Prophet ﷺ in her dream and complained of the withholding of rain. He said to her: 'Tell the people to go out on the nearest Tuesday and pray for rain, and supplicate to God, for He will give them rain on that day. And the Commander of the Faithful commands you, O assemblies of Muslims, to go out on Tuesday as the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded, and to supplicate and pray for rain with rectification of your intentions and desisting from your sins.' He said: A great multitude informed me that when they heard the call, the markets resounded with weeping and supplication. This distressed me, and I said: 'On the basis of a woman's dream, whose interpretation is unknown, and whether it is sound or not, a caliph has it proclaimed in the markets of the City of Peace? If they are not given rain, how will our situation be with the infidels? If only he had commanded the people to go out without mentioning this.' I remained anxious until Tuesday came. I was told that the people had gone out to the prayer place with Abū al-Ḥasan Aḥmad b. al-Faḍl b. ʿAbd al-Malik, the imam of the congregational mosques, and most of the sultan's companions, the jurists, and the nobles went out. When it was before noon, a cloud rose, then covered the horizons, then let loose its spouts with abundant rain, and the people returned barefoot from the mud.
