Translation
✧ [Among the virtues of al-Rāḍī] Al-Khaṭīb said: (Al-Rāḍī had virtues; among them: that he was the last caliph to have collected poetry, the last caliph to be solely responsible for directing the armies and finances, the last caliph to deliver the Friday sermon, the last caliph to sit with boon companions, and his gifts and affairs followed the arrangement of the predecessors, and the last caliph to travel in the manner of the ancients). Abū al-Ḥasan b. Rizqawayh mentioned, on the authority of Ismāʿīl al-Khuṭabī, that he said: (Al-Rāḍī sent for me on the night of the breaking of the fast, so I came to him and he said: O Ismāʿīl, I have resolved tomorrow to lead the people in prayer, so what should I say when I reach the supplication for myself? I bowed my head for a while, then I said: Say, O Commander of the Faithful: My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me. He said to me: That is enough for you. Then a servant followed me and gave me four hundred dinars).
