Translation

✧ Mention of the sedition in al-Andalus In this year, Umayyah b. Isḥāq rebelled in the city of Shantarin against ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Umawī, the ruler of al-Andalus. The reason for that was that he had a brother named Aḥmad, who was a vizier to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān killed him. Umayyah was in Shantarin, so when that reached him, he rebelled there, sought refuge with Rudmīr, the king of the Galicians, and showed him the vulnerable points of the Muslims. Then one day Umayyah went out hunting, and his companions prevented him from entering the town, so he went to Rudmīr and became his vizier. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān raided the lands of the Galicians, and he and Rudmīr met this year. The Galicians were defeated, many of them were killed, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān besieged them. Then the Galicians came out against him and gained victory over him and the Muslims, killing a great number of them. He wanted to pursue them, but Umayyah prevented him and made him fear the Muslims, and enticed him with the treasuries and booty. After this battle, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān returned and dispatched armies to the lands of the Galicians. They pressed them hard with raids and killed among them many times more than they had killed of the Muslims. Then Umayyah sought a guarantee of safety from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and he honored him.
