Then the Year 323 AH Began

Translation

✧ During it, at the end of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, the troops rioted in Baghdādh and made for the house of the vizier Abū ʿAlī b. Muqlah and his son. Their rioting increased, but Ibn Muqlah's followers prevented them. Then the troops resorted to a stratagem: they breached the vizier's house from behind, entered it, and took possession of it. The vizier and his son fled to the western side. When the Sājiyyah heard of that, they rode to the vizier's house, dealt gently with the troops, and turned them back. The vizier and his son returned to their dwellings. The vizier suspected some of Ibn Yāqūt's followers of stirring up this discord, so he gave orders and it was proclaimed that none of them should remain in the City of Peace. Then the troops resumed rioting on the eleventh of Dhū al-Ḥijjah and made several breaches in the vizier's house. His servants fought them and kept them off. The prefect of police rode out and guarded the prisons lest they be opened. Thereafter they quieted down from the rioting.
