Translation
✧ Mention of Ibn Muqlah's march to Mosul and what occurred between him and Nāṣir al-Dawlah When Nāṣir al-Dawlah killed his uncle Abū al-ʿAlāʾ and news of it reached al-Rāḍī, he considered it a grave matter and denounced it, and ordered Ibn Muqlah to march to Mosul. So he marched there with the armies in Shaʿbān. When he approached it, Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān departed from it and entered al-Zawzān, and the vizier pursued him to Jabal al-Tinnīn. Then he turned back from him and stayed in Mosul collecting its revenues. When his stay in Mosul grew long, one of Ibn Ḥamdān's associates devised a ruse against the vizier's son, who was acting as his deputy in the vizierate in Baghdad, offering him ten thousand dinars to write to his father summoning him back. So he wrote to him saying: 'Affairs at the capital have become disordered, and if he delays he will not be safe from an occurrence that would nullify their affairs.' The vizier was alarmed by that, and appointed ʿAlī b. Khalaf b. Ṭiyyāb and Mākird al-Daylamī, who was of the Sājiyyah, over Mosul, and descended to Baghdad in the middle of Shawwāl. When he left Mosul, Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān returned to it and fought with Mākird al-Daylamī. Ibn Ḥamdān was defeated, then returned and assembled another army. They met at Naṣībīn in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, and Mākird was defeated and fled to al-Raqqah, and from there descended to Baghdad. Ibn Ṭiyyāb also descended, and Ibn Ḥamdān took control of Mosul and the territories. He wrote to the caliph asking for pardon and to guarantee the territories. He was granted that, and the territories became settled under him.
