ذِكْرُ قَتْلِ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ حَمْدَانَ وَفِيهَا قَتَلَ نَاصِرُ الدَّوْلَةِ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَمْدَانَ عَمَّهُ أَبَا الْعَلَاءِ بْنَ حَمْدَانَ. وَسَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ أَبَا الْعَلَاءِ سَعِيدَ بْنَ حَمْدَانَ ضَمِنَ الْمَوْصِلَ وَدِيَارَ رَبِيعَةَ سِرًّا، وَكَانَ بِهَا نَاصِرُ الدَّوْلَةِ ابْنُ أَخِيهِ أَمِيرًا، فَسَارَ عَنْ بَغْدَاذَ فِي خَمْسِينَ رَجُلًا، وَأَظْهَرَ أَنَّهُ مُتَوَجِّهٌ لِيَطْلُبَ مَالَ الْخَلِيفَةِ مِنِ ابْنِ أَخِيهِ، فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ إِلَى الْمَوْصِلِ، خَرَجَ ابْنُ أَخِيهِ إِلَى تَلَقِّيهِ، وَقَصَدَ مُخَالَفَةَ طَرِيقِهِ، فَوَصَلَ أَبُو الْعَلَاءِ، وَدَخَلَ دَارَ ابْنِ أَخِيهِ، وَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ فَقِيلَ: إِنَّهُ خَرَجَ إِلَى لِقَائِكَ، فَقَعَدَ يَنْتَظِرُهُ، فَلَمَّا عَلِمَ نَاصِرُ الدَّوْلَةِ بِمَقَامِهِ فِي الدَّارِ، أَنْفَذَ جَمَاعَةً مِنْ غِلْمَانِهِ، فَقَبَضُوا عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَنْفَذَ جَمَاعَةً غَيْرَهُمْ فَقَتَلُوهُ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the killing of Abū al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ḥamdān In this year, Nāṣir al-Dawlah Abū Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥamdān killed his paternal uncle Abū al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ḥamdān. The reason for that was that Abū al-ʿAlāʾ Saʿīd b. Ḥamdān had secretly guaranteed [the revenue of] al-Mawṣil and Diyār Rabīʿah, where his nephew Nāṣir al-Dawlah was governor. He departed from Baghdādh with fifty men, claiming that he was going to demand the caliph's money from his nephew. When he reached al-Mawṣil, his nephew went out to meet him, but deliberately took a different road. Abū al-ʿAlāʾ arrived, entered his nephew's house, and asked about him. He was told that he had gone out to meet him, so he sat down waiting for him. When Nāṣir al-Dawlah learned that he was staying in the house, he sent a group of his servants, and they seized him. Then he sent another group, and they killed him.
