✧ Mention of the arrest of the two sons of Yāqūt In this year, in Jumādā al-Ūlā, al-Rāḍī bi-Allāh arrested Muḥammad and al-Muẓaffar, the two sons of Yāqūt. The reason for that was that the vizier Abū ʿAlī b. Muqla had become disturbed by the domination of Muḥammad b. Yāqūt over the entire kingdom, and that he himself had no authority over anything. So he slandered him to al-Rāḍī and persisted in the slander until he achieved what he wanted. When it was the fifth of Jumādā al-Ūlā, all the commanders rode to the caliph's palace as was their custom, and the vizier was present. Al-Rāḍī indicated that he wanted to grant a number of the commanders assignments. Muḥammad b. Yāqūt came for the chamberlainship, accompanied by his secretary Abū Isḥāq al-Qarārīṭī. Servants went out to Muḥammad b. Yāqūt and summoned him to the caliph. He entered hurriedly, but they diverted him to a chamber there and imprisoned him in it. Then they summoned al-Qarārīṭī, who entered, and they diverted him to another chamber. Then they summoned al-Muẓaffar b. Yāqūt from his house; he was intoxicated, and he came, and they imprisoned him as well. The vizier Abū ʿAlī b. Muqla sent someone to Muḥammad's house to guard it from looting. At that time, Yāqūt was residing in Wāsiṭ. When news of the arrest of his two sons reached him, he went down seeking Fārs to fight Ibn Buwayh, and he wrote to al-Rāḍī seeking to soften his heart and asking him to send his two sons to assist him in his wars. But Ibn Muqla took sole control of the matter.
