Translation
✧ Mention of Yāqūt's return to al-Ahwāz When Yāqūt reached Wāsiṭ, he stayed there until Mardāwīj was killed, and with him was Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī writing for him. When Mardāwīj was killed, Yāqūt returned to al-Ahwāz and took control of that province. When Yāqūt reached ʿAskar Mukram, after the killing of Mardāwīj, the troops of Ibn Buwayh had preceded him, and they met in the outskirts of Arrajān. Ibn Buwayh had caught up with his companions, and the fighting between them in front of him intensified, so Yāqūt was defeated and did not succeed after that. Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī corresponded with Ibn Buwayh regarding peace, and he agreed to that, and he wrote about it to al-Rāḍī, and he agreed (to that), and he confirmed the lands of Fārs for Ibn Buwayh, and he settled in Shīrāz, and Yāqūt settled in al-Ahwāz with Ibn al-Barīdī with him. Muḥammad b. Yāqūt had gone to Baghdādh and taken charge of the chamberlainship, and al-Rāḍī bestowed robes of honour upon him, and along with the chamberlainship he took charge of the command of the army, and he intervened in the affairs of the dīwāns, and he instructed them not to accept any decree of appointment, dismissal, or grant unless it bore his handwriting, and he ordered them to attend his assembly. Abū ʿAlī b. Muqla endured that and obliged himself to go to the house of Yāqūt at some times, and he remained as if unemployed. In these few days there were great events, among them: the withdrawal of Washmakīr, the brother of Mardāwīj, from Iṣbahān by the letter of al-Qāhir, after he had taken possession of it, and al-Qāhir's appointment of Muḥammad b. Yāqūt over it, and the deposition of al-Qāhir, and the caliphate of al-Rāḍī, and the matter of the ḥujba for Muḥammad b. Rāʾiq, then its annulment, and the departure of Muḥammad b. Yāqūt from Rāmahurmuz to Baghdādh, and his taking charge of the chamberlainship, after he had been on his way to Iṣbahān to take charge of it, and Mardāwīj's restoration of his brother Washmakīr to it, and ʿAlī b. Buwayh's possession of Arrajān. All of this happened in this close moment, in seventy days. Blessed be God, in whose hand is sovereignty and dominion; He disposes affairs as He wills; there is no god but He.
