Translation
✧ Mention of several events In the year 319 AH, in Shawwāl, a great flood came to Takrīt from rain that fell in the open country, and four hundred houses and shops were drowned, and the water rose in its markets fourteen spans, and many people drowned; the Muslims and the Christians were buried together, one not distinguished from another. In it, a severe wind stirred in al-Mawṣil with intense redness, then it darkened until a man could not recognize his companion, and people thought that the Resurrection had come; then God (may He be exalted) brought rain and removed that. In al-Muḥarram of this year, the pilgrims entered Baghdad, and Muʾnis the servant had gone out to the pilgrimage in this year in a dense army, fearing the Qarāmiṭa, and the Muslims rejoiced at that, and Baghdad was adorned on that day, and tents and domes were pitched for Muʾnis the servant. And news reached Muʾnis during the journey that the Qarāmiṭa were ahead of him, so he turned the people away from the main road and took them through mountain passes and valleys, and they wandered there for days, and people witnessed wonders and marvels there: they saw bones of the utmost hugeness, and they saw people who had been transformed into stone, and some of them saw a woman standing at an oven who had been transformed into stone, and the oven had become stone, and Muʾnis carried much of that to the court to confirm what he reported of it. It is said that they were of the people of ʿĀd or of Thamūd. And God knows best.
