Translation

✧ What Lashkarī did of opposition Lashkarī al-Daylamī was one of the companions of Asfār, (and he sought safe-conduct to) the Caliph. When Hārūn b. Gharīb was defeated by Mardāwīj, he marched with him to Qarmīsīn, and Hārūn stayed there. He sought reinforcements from al-Muqtadir to resume (fighting) Mardāwīj, and Hārūn sent this Lashkarī to Nahāwand to bring money that was there to him. When Lashkarī reached Nahāwand and saw the wealth of its people, he coveted them and fined them three thousand thousand dirhams, extracting it within a week. He recruited troops with it, then went to Iṣbahān fleeing from Hārūn with the troops who had joined him, in Jumādā al-Ākhirah. The governor of Iṣbahān at that time was Aḥmad b. Kayghalagh, and that was before Mardāwīj's takeover of it. Aḥmad went out to him and fought him, but Aḥmad suffered an ugly defeat. Lashkarī took possession of Iṣbahān, and his companions entered it, lodging in houses, khans, and elsewhere, but Lashkarī did not enter with them. When Aḥmad was defeated, he escaped to one of the villages of Iṣbahān with thirty horsemen. Lashkarī rode around the wall of Iṣbahān from outside, and he saw Aḥmad with his group. He asked about him and was told: "There is no doubt that he is one of the companions of Aḥmad b. Kayghalagh." He set out with the few companions who were with him toward them, and their number was small. When he drew near, they recognized one another and fought. Lashkarī was killed; Aḥmad b. Kayghalagh killed him, striking him with a sword on his head, splitting the helmet and the mail coif. The sword descended until it mixed with his brain, and he fell dead. Aḥmad's age at that time had passed seventy. When Lashkarī was killed, those with him were defeated and entered Iṣbahān. They informed their companions, who fled headlong, leaving their baggage and most of their mounts. Aḥmad entered Iṣbahān. This was before Mardāwīj's takeover of Iṣbahān, and it was a curious victory. His reward was (that he was dismissed) from Iṣbahān, and al-Muẓaffar b. Yāqūt was appointed over it.
