Then the Year 315 AH Began
وفي سَنَةُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ وفِي صَفَرٍ مِنْهَا كَانَ قُدُومُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عِيسَى بْنِ الْوَزِيرِ مِنْ دِمَشْقَ إِلَى بَغْدَادَ وَقَدْ تَلَقَّاهُ النَّاسُ إِلَى أَثْنَاءِ الطَّرِيقِ، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ لَقِيَهُ إِلَى الْأَنْبَارِ وَمِنْهُمْ دُونَ ذَلِكَ. وَحِينَ دَخَلَ إِلَى الْخَلِيفَةِ الْمُقْتَدِرِ خَاطَبَهُ الْخَلِيفَةُ فَأَحْسَنَ مُخَاطَبَتَهُ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ، فَبَعَثَ وَرَاءَهُ بِالْفَرْشِ وَالْقُمَاشِ وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفِ دِينَارٍ، وَاسْتَدْعَاهُ مِنَ الْغَدِ، فَخَلَعَ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَنْشَدَ وَهُوَ فِي الْخِلْعَةِ: مَا النَّاسُ إِلَّا مَعَ الدُّنْيَا وَصَاحِبِهَا فَكَيْفَمَا انْقَلَبَتْ يَوْمًا بِهِ انْقَلَبُوا يُعَظِّمُونَ أَخَا الدُّنْيَا فَإِنْ وَثَبَتْ يَوْمًا عَلَيْهِ بِمَا لَا يَشْتَهِي وَثَبُوا.
Translation
✧ And in the year five hundred and fifteen, in Ṣafar of it, was the arrival of ʿAlī b. ʿĪsā b. al-Wazīr from Damascus to Baghdad, and the people had gone out to meet him along the way; among them were those who met him as far as al-Anbār, and among them were those nearer than that. And when he entered to the caliph al-Muqtadir, the caliph addressed him and spoke to him well, then he departed to his house. Then he sent after him furnishings and cloth and twenty thousand dinars, and summoned him on the morrow, and bestowed upon him a robe of honor, and he recited while he was in the robe of honor: People are but with this world and its possessor; however it turns one day, with it they turn. They magnify the brother of this world, and if it leaps one day upon him with what he does not desire, they leap.
