Translation
✧ The story of the three who sought shelter in a cave and it closed upon them, so they sought intercession with Allah Almighty through their righteous deeds, and relief was granted to them. Al-Bukhārī said: with his chain of transmission from Ibn ʿUmar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: While three men from those before you were walking, rain overtook them, so they sought shelter in a cave, and it closed upon them. One of them said to the others: By Allah, O these, nothing will save you except truthfulness, so let each man among you supplicate with what he knows he has been truthful in. One of them said: O Allah, if You know that I had a hired worker who worked for me for a faraq of rice, then he went away and left it, and that I took that faraq and sowed it, and from its outcome I bought cows, and that he came to me seeking his wage, so I said: Go to those cows and drive them. He said to me: I only have with you a faraq of rice. I said to him: Go to those cows, for they are from that faraq. So he drove them. If You know that I did that out of fear of You, then grant us relief. So the rock shifted away from them. The second said: O Allah, if You know that I had two elderly parents, and I used to bring them every night the milk of my sheep, and one night I was delayed from them, and I came when they had slept, while my family and children were crying out from hunger. I would not give them drink until my parents drank, and I disliked waking them, and I disliked leaving them so that they would be deprived of their drink. I remained waiting until dawn rose. If You know that I did that out of fear of You, then grant us relief. So the rock shifted away from them until they looked at the sky. The third said: O Allah, if You know that I had a cousin, the most beloved of people to me, and that I sought to seduce her from herself, but she refused unless I brought her one hundred dinars. I sought them until I was able, then I brought them to her and handed them to her, and she gave me control over herself. When I sat between her legs, she said: Fear Allah and do not break the seal except by its right. So I stood up and left the hundred dinars. If You know that I did that out of fear of You, then grant us relief. So Allah granted them relief, and they went out.
