Translation

✧ Mention of Several Events In the year 312 AH, Bishr the Eunuch, governor of Tarsus, raided the land of the Byzantines, where he conquered, took booty, and captured prisoners. He took one hundred and fifty patricians captive, and the captives numbered about two thousand head. In it, Muʾnis the Eunuch fell upon the Bedouins of Banū Shaybān in the area of Wādī al-Dhiʾāb, killing many of them and plundering their dwellings. Among the goods he seized were the uncountable possessions of merchants which they had taken through highway robbery. (In it, in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, Bidʿah the songstress, freedwoman of ʿArīb, freedman of al-Maʾmūn, died.) In it, in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, Bedouins from al-Ḥājir fell upon the pilgrims, cutting off their route. They took what they wanted from the water source and the goods and camels with them, and they seized two hundred and fifty women. Al-Faḍl b. ʿAbd al-Malik led the pilgrimage this year. In it, Abū al-Hayjāʾ ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥamdān was appointed over Mosul. In it, al-Shāh b. Mīkāl died. In it, on the eve of the Feast of Sacrifice, three stars fell, two at the beginning of the night and one at its end, apart from many small stars. In the year 312 AH, the vizier ʿAlī b. ʿĪsā was ordered to march to Tarsus for the summer campaign. He set out with two thousand horsemen as reinforcements for Bishr the Eunuch, governor of Tarsus, but the summer campaign was not feasible for them, so they undertook it as a winter campaign in intense cold and snow. In it, al-Muqtadir arrested Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAbd Allāh, known as Ibn al-Jaṣṣāṣ the Jeweler, and seized what was in his house of various kinds of wealth. Its value was four million dinars, while he claimed that the value of what was taken from him was twenty million dinars or more. In it, the Caliph al-Muqtadir circumcised five of his sons, spending on this circumcision six hundred thousand dinars, including five thousand as scattered coins and one hundred thousand dirhams. Before them and along with them, he circumcised many orphans and treated them kindly with money and clothing. This is a good deed, may God have mercy on him. In it, the vizier built the hospital in al-Ḥarbiyyah in Baghdad and spent very substantial sums on it, may God reward him well. In it: On the first day of Muḥarram, a letter arrived from Abū al-Ḥasan Naṣr b. Aḥmad, ruler of Khurasan, stating that he had fought his uncle Isḥāq b. Ismāʿīl and taken him captive. Robes of honor were bestowed upon his messenger, and robes were sent to him for the governorship of Khurasan. In the month of Ramaḍān, al-Muqtadir's sons entered school, and their tutor was Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm b. al-Sarī al-Zajjāj. In Dhū al-Qaʿdah, a man came to al-Muqtadir claiming that he was the son of al-Riḍā the ʿAlid. Investigation of his case proved that he was the son of al-Ḍabuʿī, so he was paraded through both sides of the city and imprisoned. In it: the festival prayer was performed in the mosque of Egypt, where the festival prayer had not been performed before. ʿAlī b. Abī Shaykhah, one of the scribes, delivered the sermon to the people by appointment. Among his errors was that he said: "Fear God as He deserves to be feared, and do not die except while you are idolaters." In it: the Daylamites embraced Islam at the hands of al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī al-ʿAlawī al-Uṭrūsh, and they had been Magians.
