✧ The Death of ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad, Lord of al-Andalus, and the Rule of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Nāṣir In this year, ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam b. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Muʿāwiyah al-Umawī, lord of al-Andalus, died in Rabīʿ al-Awwal. He was forty-two years old. He was white, fair-haired, blue-eyed, of medium height, and he dyed his hair black. His rule lasted twenty-five years and eleven months. He left behind eleven male sons, one of whom was Muḥammad al-Maqtūl, whom he killed in (one of the prescribed punishments), and he is the father of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Nāṣir. When he died, the son of this son of his, Muḥammad, succeeded him. His name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam b. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān (who entered al-Andalus) b. Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān b. al-Ḥakam al-Umawī. His mother was an umm walad named Muznah. He was twenty days old when his father was killed. His assumption of authority was something remarkable, because he was a young man, and his paternal uncles and his father's paternal uncles were present in the capital, yet they did not oppose him. He was appointed to the emirate and over all the lands, although they had been in dispute before him. Some fortresses in the district of Rayyah and the fortress of Bubashtar held out, so he fought them until the lands in his region were pacified. The people of Toledo had also opposed him, and he fought them until they returned to obedience. He continued to fight the dissenters until they submitted to him and obeyed for more than twenty years. Thus the lands became stable and secure during his reign, and he passed on his way.
