Translation
✧ Account of several events In the year two hundred and ninety-seven, al-Qāsim b. Sīmā raided the summer expedition, and Muʾnis the Eunuch ransomed the prisoners who were in the hands of the Byzantines. Ibn al-Jawzī related from Thābit b. Sinān that in the days of al-Muqtadir in Baghdad he saw a woman with no forearms and no upper arms, her palms alone being attached to her shoulders, but she could do nothing with them. She used to do with her feet what women do with their hands, such as spinning, combing the hair, and other things. And I saw another woman with upper arms, forearms, and palms, except that each of the palms tapered and became thin when it parted from the wrist bones until it ended in a fine point extending to become a single finger, and likewise her legs were of this form. With her was a daughter of hers of similar form. The rains were delayed from Baghdad in this year, and prices rose there. Reports came that Makkah—may God Almighty ennoble it—was visited by a great flood, such that the corners of the House were submerged by the torrents, and Zamzam overflowed, and that had not been seen before this year. Al-Faḍl b. ʿAbd al-Malik al-Hāshimī led the people in the pilgrimage.
