Translation
✧ Of the notables who passed away in the year two hundred and eighty-nine: Jaʿfar b. Mūsā, Abū al-Faḍl al-Naḥwī Jaʿfar b. Mūsā, Abū al-Faḍl al-Naḥwī, known as Ibn al-Ḥaddād: From Muḥammad b. al-ʿAbbās, who said: It was read to Ibn al-Munādī while I was listening. He said: Abū al-Faḍl [Jaʿfar] b. Mūsā al-Naḥwī, the people wrote from him something of lexicography and uncommon ḥadīth, and what was from the books of Abū ʿUbayd that he heard from Aḥmad b. Yūsuf al-Thaʿlabī and other than that. He was among the trustworthy Muslims and their best. He passed away [on Sunday evening] and was buried on Monday, three nights having passed of Shaʿbān in the year two hundred and eighty-nine, and he was buried near his residence behind the Qanṭarat al-Bardān. Al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Yāsir, Abū ʿAlī al-Faqīh al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Yāsir, Abū ʿAlī al-Faqīh: Al-Ṭabarānī narrated from him, and he was trustworthy. He went to Egypt and wrote from him there. He passed away in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of this year. Al-Ḥasan b. al-ʿAbbās b. Abī Mahrān al-Ḥasan b. al-ʿAbbās b. Abī Mahrān, Abū ʿAlī al-Muqriʾ al-Rāzī, known as al-Jammāl: He resided in Baghdād and narrated there from a group. Ibn Ṣāʿid, Ibn Makhlad, and al-Naqqāsh narrated from him, and he was trustworthy. Ibrāhīm, Abū ʿAlī: He was born in the year two hundred and eleven, and he heard from Khalaf b. Hishām, Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, Muḥammad b. Saʿd, and others. Aḥmad b. Maʿrūf al-Khashshāb, Ibn Kāmil [al-Qāḍī], al-Khuṭabī, and al-Ṭūmārī narrated from him. He was harsh in transmitting ḥadīth, withholding except from those who kept close company with him often, and he lived on the eastern side [in] the area of al-Ruṣāfah. From Aḥmad b. Kāmil al-Qāḍī, who said: Al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad was precise in the sciences, with much memorization of ḥadīth, both connected and disconnected, and of the various categories of reports, genealogy, poetry, and knowledge of the narrators, eloquent, [of moderate standing in jurisprudence, leaning] toward the school of the Iraqis. I heard him say: I accompanied Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn and took from him knowledge of the narrators; I accompanied Muṣʿab b. ʿAbd Allāh and took from him knowledge of genealogy; I accompanied Abū Khaythamah and took from him the connected ḥadīth; and I accompanied al-Ḥasan b.
