اسْتِيلَاءِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ هَارُونَ عَلَى الرَّيِّ وَفِي سَنَةُ تِسْعٍ وَثَمَانِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ كَاتَبَ أَهْلُ الرَّيِّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ هَارُونَ الَّذِي كَانَ حَارَبَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْعَلَوِيَّ، وَتَوَلَّى طَبَرِسْتَانَ لِإِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ، وَكَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَدْ خَلَعَ طَاعَةَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَسَأَلَهُ أَهْلُ الرَّيِّ الْمَسِيرَ إِلَيْهِمْ لِيُسَلِّمُوهَا إِلَيْهِ. وَكَانَ سَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْوَالِيَ عَلَيْهِمْ كَانَ قَدْ أَسَاءَ السِّيرَةَ فِيهِمْ. فَسَارَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَحَارَبَهُ وَالِيهَا وَهُوَ الدَّتْمَشُ التُّرْكِيُّ، فَقَتَلَهُ مُحَمَّدٌ، وَقَتَلَ ابْنَيْنِ لَهُ وَأَخَا كَيْغَلَغَ، وَهُوَ مِنْ قُوَّادِ الْخَلِيفَةِ، وَدَخَلَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الرَّيَّ، وَاسْتَوْلَى عَلَيْهَا فِي رَجَبٍ. فَقَصَدَهُ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بِالْجُيُوشِ فَقَهَرَهُ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مِنْهَا مَذْمُومًا مَدْحُورًا.
Translation
✧ Reports of Muhammad b. Harun's capture of al-Rayy In the year two hundred and eighty-nine, the people of al-Rayy wrote to Muhammad b. Harun, the one who had fought Muhammad b. Zayd the Alid and had taken charge of Tabaristan for Ismaʿil b. Ahmad. Muhammad b. Harun had already renounced obedience to Ismaʿil, and the people of al-Rayy asked him to come to them so that they might surrender the city to him. The reason for that was that the governor over them had behaved badly toward them. So Muhammad b. Harun marched to them and fought the governor of the city, who was al-Datmash al-Turki, and Muhammad killed him, along with two of his sons and the brother of Kayghalagh, who was one of the caliph's commanders. Muhammad b. Harun entered al-Rayy and took control of it in Rajab. Then Ismaʿil b. Ahmad advanced against him with armies, defeated him, and expelled him from it, blameworthy and repulsed.
