قَتْلِ عَمْرِو بْنِ اللَّيْثِ الصَّفَّارِ وَفِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي دَخَلَ فِيهِ الْمُكْتَفِي بَغْدَاذَ قُتِلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ اللَّيْثِ الصَّفَّارُ وَكَانَ مُعْتَقَلًا فِي سِجْنِ أَبِيهِ وَدُفِنَ مِنَ الْغَدِ، وَكَانَ الْمُعْتَضِدُ بَعْدَمَا امْتَنَعَ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ، أَمَرَ صَافِيًا الْحُرْمِيَّ بِقَتْلِ عَمْرِو بْنِ اللَّيْثِ بِالْإِيمَاءِ وَالْإِشَارَةِ، وَوَضْعِ يَدِهِ عَلَى ( رَقَبَتِهِ، وَعَلَى عَيْنِهِ بِأَنِ ) اذْبَحِ الْأَعْوَرَ، وَكَانَ عَمْرٌو أَعْوَرَ، فَلَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ صَافِي لِعِلْمِهِ بِقُرْبِ وَفَاةِ الْمُعْتَضِدِ، وَكَرِهَ قَتْلَ عَمْرٍو. فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ الْمُكْتَفِي بَغْدَاذَ سَأَلَ ( الْوَزِيرَ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ ): هُوَ حَيٌّ، فَسُرَّ بِذَلِكَ وَأَرَادَ الْإِحْسَانَ إِلَيْهِ لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ يُكْثِرُ مِنَ الْهَدِيَّةِ إِلَيْهِ لَمَّا كَانَ بِالرَّيِّ، فَكَرِهَ الْوَزِيرُ ذَلِكَ، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ قَتَلَهُ.
Translation
✧ The Killing of ʿAmr b. al-Layth al-Ṣaffār On the day al-Muktafī entered Baghdād, ʿAmr b. al-Layth al-Ṣaffār was killed. He had been imprisoned in his father's prison and was buried the next day. After al-Muʿtaḍid had become unable to speak, he had ordered Ṣāfī al-Ḥuramī by gesture and sign to kill ʿAmr b. al-Layth, placing his hand on his own neck and on his eye, meaning: "Slaughter the one-eyed man." ʿAmr was one-eyed. But Ṣāfī did not carry out the order, because he knew that al-Muʿtaḍid's death was near, and he disliked killing ʿAmr. When al-Muktafī arrived in Baghdād, he asked the vizier about him. The vizier said, "He is alive." Al-Muktafī was pleased and wanted to treat him kindly, because ʿAmr had sent him many gifts when he was in al-Rayy. But the vizier disliked that and sent someone who killed him.
