This was the last pilgrimage he led, and the first pilgrimage he led for the people was in the year two hundred and sixty-four, up to this year. In this year it was proclaimed in the City of Peace that no judge, astrologer, or diviner should sit on the road or in the congregational mosque, and the booksellers swore that they would not sell books of kalām, disputation, or philosophy. In this year Jarād, the scribe of Abū al-Ṣaqr Ismāʿīl b. Bulbul, was arrested. In this year Abū Ṭalḥa Manṣūr b. Muslim departed from Shahrazūr, which had been his, and was arrested. In Shawwāl, al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Jaṣṣāṣ arrived from Egypt as an envoy of Khumārawayh, bringing gifts of twenty loads of gold coin on mules, ten servants, two chests containing curiosities, and twenty men on twenty fine camels with ornamented saddles, carrying silver saddlebags, wearing brocade cloaks and ornamented belts, and seventeen mounts with saddles and bridles, five of them with gold and the rest with silver, and thirty-seven mounts with fine saddlecloths, five mules, and a giraffe. Al-Muʿtaḍid bestowed robes of honor on Ibn al-Jaṣṣāṣ and on seven men with him. Ibn al-Jaṣṣāṣ sought to arrange the marriage of Khumārawayh's daughter to ʿAlī b. al-Muʿtaḍid, but al-Muʿtaḍid said, "I myself will marry her!" So he married her.
