Translation

✧ The war between the army of ʿAmr b. al-Layth and the army of al-Muwaffaq In the year two hundred and seventy-four, al-Muwaffaq marched to Fārs to fight ʿAmr b. al-Layth al-Ṣaffār. News of this reached ʿAmr, so he dispatched al-ʿAbbās b. Isḥāq with a large body of troops to Sīrāf, sent his son Muḥammad b. ʿAmr to Arrajān, and dispatched Abū Ṭalḥah Sharkūb, the commander of his army, at the head of his vanguard. Abū Ṭalḥah sought protection from al-Muwaffaq. ʿAmr heard of that and refrained from confronting al-Muwaffaq. Then Abū Ṭalḥah resolved to return to ʿAmr, but news of him reached al-Muwaffaq, who seized him near Shīzar and gave his wealth to his son al-Muʿtaḍid Abū al-ʿAbbās. He marched seeking ʿAmr, but ʿAmr returned to Kirmān and from there to Sijistān across the desert. His son Muḥammad died in the desert, and al-Muwaffaq was unable to take Kirmān (and Sijistān from ʿAmr, so he turned back from him).
