Translation
✧ Mention of several events In the year two hundred and seventy-four, Yāzmān raided, penetrating deep into the land of the Byzantines, where he fell upon many of its people, killing, taking booty, capturing captives, and taking prisoners, then returned safely to Ṭarsūs. In it, Ṣiddīq al-Farghānī entered the houses of Sāmarrā, plundering them and seizing the merchants' wealth from them, causing corruption. This Ṣiddīq used to guard the road and protect it, but then he began to waylay it. Hārūn b. Muḥammad led the people on the pilgrimage. In it, Isḥāq b. Kundāj gathered a large force and marched toward Syria. The news reached Khumārawayh, so he marched against him after Isḥāq had crossed the Euphrates. They met, and a fierce battle took place between the two parties, in which Isḥāq suffered a tremendous defeat, nothing stopping him until he crossed the Euphrates and fortified himself behind it. Khumārawayh marched to the Euphrates and constructed a bridge. When Isḥāq learned of that, he moved from there to fortresses of his that he had prepared and fortified, and sent to Khumārawayh, humbling himself to him and offering him obedience throughout his province, which was the Jazīra and its dependencies. Khumārawayh agreed to that. Ibn Abī al-Sāj made peace with him, gathered a large force, and marched toward Syria, aiming to contest Khumārawayh while he was farthest away in Egypt. The news reached Khumārawayh, so he set out from Egypt with his armies. They met in al-Bathaniyya, in the districts of Damascus, and fought a great battle. Ibn Abī al-Sāj was defeated and retreated in rout until he crossed the Euphrates. Khumārawayh brought out the son of Ibn Abī al-Sāj, who was a hostage with him, bestowed a robe of honor upon him, released him, and sent him to his father, then returned to Egypt.
