Translation
✧ Mention of Several Events (In the year two hundred and seventy-three there was a battle at al-Raqqah in Jumādā al-Ūlā between Isḥāq b. Kundājīq and Muḥammad b. Abī al-Sāj, and Isḥāq was defeated. Then there was another battle between them in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, and Isḥāq was also defeated). In this year, the sons of the king of the Byzantines fell upon their father, killed him, and one of them reigned after him. In it, al-Muwaffaq seized Luʾluʾ, the ghulām of Ibn Ṭūlūn, who had come to him with a guarantee of safety (when he was fighting the Zanj at al-Baṣrah; and when he seized him, he put him in fetters), and he confined him and took from him four hundred thousand dinars. Luʾluʾ used to say: "I have no fault except the abundance of my wealth." His affairs continued to decline until he became poor and nothing remained to him. Then he returned to Egypt in the last days of Hārūn b. Khumārawayh, alone and solitary, with a single servant. This was the fruit of feeble intellect and ingratitude for kindness. Hārūn b. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq led the people in the pilgrimage in this year. In it, the blacks rose in Egypt and besieged the chief of police. Khumārawayh b. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn heard the news, so he rode out with a drawn sword in his hand and headed for the house of the chief of police, killing every black he met. They fled from him, and he inflicted great slaughter among them. Egypt became calm and the people were safe. Hārūn b. Muḥammad al-Hāshimī led the people in the pilgrimage this year, and this was the tenth year of his leading the people in the pilgrimage. None other than he led the people in the pilgrimage for ten consecutive years after ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ.
