Translation
✧ Mention of the wars of al-Andalus and Ifrīqiya In the year two hundred and seventy-one, Muḥammad, the ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched an army with his son al-Mundhir to the city of Baṭalyaws. Ibn Marwān al-Jillīqī, who was in rebellion, as we have mentioned, withdrew from it and made for the fortress of Ashīr by surprise, fortifying himself therein. Al-Mundhir burned Baṭalyaws. Muḥammad also dispatched an army with Hāshim b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz to the city of Saraqusṭa, where Muḥammad b. Lubb b. Mūsā was present. Hāshim took possession of it and expelled Muḥammad from it. With him was ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣūn, whose rebellion against the ruler of al-Andalus we have mentioned, and he made peace with him. When they returned to Qurṭuba, ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣūn fled and made for Barbushtar in rebellion, and the ruler of al-Andalus became concerned about him. In that year, a great raiding party of the Muslims set out in Sicily to Ramṭa, and it devastated, captured booty, took captives, and seized many, then returned. The emir of Sicily, al-Ḥusayn b. Aḥmad, died, and Sawāda b. Muḥammad b. Khafāja al-Tamīmī was appointed after him. He arrived there, and a large army marched to the city of Qaṭāniya and destroyed what was in it. He marched to Ṭabarmīn and fought its people, ruined its crops, and advanced into it. A messenger of the Byzantine patrician came to him seeking a truce and an exchange of prisoners. He made a truce with him for three months and ransomed three hundred Muslim prisoners, and Sawāda returned to Balarm.
