Translation

✧ The war between the army of Ibn Ṭūlūn and the army of al-Muwaffaq at Makkah In the year 269 AH, there was a battle at Makkah between an army of Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn and the army of al-Muwaffaq, in Dhū al-Qaʿdah. Its cause was that Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn dispatched an army with two commanders to Makkah. They arrived there, gathered the wheat sellers and butchers, and distributed money among them. The governor of Makkah at that time, Hārūn b. Muḥammad, had left it, fearing them, and was in Bustān Ibn ʿĀmir. Then Jaʿfar al-Bāghamardī arrived at Makkah in Dhū al-Ḥijjah with an army, and Hārūn b. Muḥammad met him with a group. Thus Jaʿfar was strengthened by them. They and the followers of Ibn Ṭūlūn met and fought. The people of Khurāsān supported Jaʿfar. Two hundred men of Ibn Ṭūlūn's followers were killed, and the rest were defeated, plundered, and their wealth was taken. Jaʿfar took from the two commanders about two hundred thousand dinars. He granted safety to the Egyptians, the butchers, and the wheat sellers. A letter was read in the congregational mosque cursing Ibn Ṭūlūn. The people and the merchants' wealth were safe.
