Translation
✧ Mention of several events ( In the year two hundred sixty-seven, Ibn Ḥafṣūn in al-Andalus initiated opposition against Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the ruler of al-Andalus, in the area of Rayya. An army from that area, led by its governor, went out against him and fought him, but the army was defeated. The affair of ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣūn grew strong and his reputation spread. Those seeking mischief and corruption came to him. Muḥammad, the ruler of al-Andalus, sent another governor with an army, and ʿUmar made peace with him. The governor then sought out everyone who had played a role in aiding ʿUmar and destroyed them; among them were those he banished. Thus that region became stable. In it there was a great earthquake in Syria, Egypt, the lands of the Jazīra, Ifrīqiya, and al-Andalus, preceded by a great, mighty roar. In it al-Ḥasan b. al-ʿAbbās was appointed over the island of Sicily. He dispatched raiding parties to every area and went out to Qaṭāniya, destroying its crops and the crops of Ṭabarmīn, and cutting down its trees. Then he marched to Baqāra and destroyed its crops, and returned to Balarm. The Byzantines sent out raiding parties and inflicted heavy losses on the Muslims, during the days of al-Ḥasan b. al-ʿAbbās ). In it the sultan imprisoned Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir and several members of his household, after al-Khujustānī's victory over ʿAmr b. al-Layth. ʿAmr had accused him of corresponding with al-Khujustānī and al-Ḥusayn b. Ṭāhir, since he was mentioned on the pulpits of Khurasan. In it there was a war between Kayghalagh al-Turkī and the followers of Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Dulaf, in which the followers of Aḥmad were defeated. Kayghalagh marched to Hamadhān, and Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz met him with those of his followers who had gathered to him, and Kayghalagh was defeated and withdrew to al-Ṣaymara. In it, in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, Umm Ḥabīb bt. al-Rashīd died. In it there was a battle between Isḥāq b. Kundājīq, Isḥāq b. Ayyūb, ʿĪsā b. al-Shaykh, Abū al-Maghrā, Ḥamdān b. Ḥamdūn, and those who gathered to them from Rabīʿa, Taghlib, Bakr, and the Yemen. Ibn Kundājīq defeated them and drove them to Naṣībīn, then pursued them to Āmid. He left behind at Āmid those who besieged ʿĪsā, and there were battles between them at Āmid. In it al-Khujustānī entered Naysābūr, and ʿAmr b. al-Layth and his followers were defeated. He behaved badly toward its people, demolished the houses of Muʿādh b. Muslim, and struck whomever of them he could. He abandoned mention of Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir and prayed for al-Muʿtamid and for himself. In it, in Shawwāl, the followers of Abū al-Sāj had a battle with al-Hayṣam al-ʿIjlī, in which they killed his vanguard and seized his camp as booty. In it Aḥmad b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Khujustānī advanced intending Iraq, and reached Simnān. The people of al-Rayy fortified themselves against him, so he returned to Khurasan. In it a great number of pilgrims turned back from the Makkah road because of the intense heat, while a great number continued. A vast multitude of them died from heat and thirst, all of that in the desert. Fazāra fell upon the merchants there, and it is said that seven hundred loads of cloth were taken. ( In it the artisans were banished from Sāmarrā ). In it al-Khujustānī minted dinars and dirhams for himself. Hārūn b. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Mūsā b. ʿĪsā al-Hāshimī led the people in the pilgrimage. In this year: Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn pounced upon Aḥmad b. al-Mudabbir, who was in charge of the land tax of Damascus, Jordan, and Palestine. He imprisoned him, seized his wealth, and made a settlement with him for six hundred thousand dinars.
