Translation
✧ Mention of several events In this year, Musāwir al-Shārī died. He had departed from al-Bawāzīj intending to meet an army that had marched against him from the caliph. His companions wrote to Muḥammad b. Kharzād, who was in Shahrazūr, to appoint him over their affair, but he refused; he was a man of much devotion. So they pledged allegiance to Ayyūb b. Ḥayyān al-Wāriqī al-Bajalī. Muḥammad b. Kharzād sent to them to mention that he had considered his matter and could not neglect it, because Musāwir had entrusted it to him. They said to him, "We have pledged allegiance to this man and will not betray him." So he marched against them with those who had pledged allegiance to him, and fought them. Ayyūb b. Ḥayyān was killed, and after him they pledged allegiance to Muḥammad b. ʿAbdallāh b. Yaḥyā al-Wāriqī, known as al-Ghulām, who was also killed. Then his companions pledged allegiance to Hārūn b. ʿAbdallāh al-Bajalī. His followers became numerous, Ibn Kharzād turned back from him, and Hārūn took control of the districts of al-Mawṣil and collected its land tax. In it there was a battle between Mūsā and the Bedouins. Al-Muwaffaq dispatched his son Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Muʿtaḍid with a group of his commanders in pursuit of the Bedouins. In it al-Dayrānī fell upon Ibn Aws, raiding him by night. His army scattered, and he plundered it. Ibn Aws went to Wāsiṭ. In it the companions of Yaʿqūb b. al-Layth captured Muḥammad b. Wāṣil and took him prisoner. In it the brother of Sharkub, al-Ḥusayn b. Ṭāhir, was expelled from Naysābūr, and he seized it, compelling its people to give him a third of their wealth. Al-Ḥusayn went to Marw, where Ibn Khwārizm Shāh was, who was calling for Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir. (In it Muḥammad, the ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched his son al-Mundhir with a large army, and set his route through Mārida. When he passed beyond Mārida into enemy territory, nine hundred horsemen of the army followed him. A large host of polytheists who had been reinforced came out against them, and they fought a fierce battle in which they stood firm, and many of the polytheists were killed. Then Ibn al-Julayqī and the polytheists with him gained the upper hand over the seven hundred, and they put them to the sword, killing them to the last man. May God honor them with martyrdom. In it Ibrāhīm, the emir of Ifrīqiya, began building the city of Raqqāda). In it many widespread wars took place in various lands. Among them was a great slaughter among the Zanj—may God disfigure them—when one of the commanders on behalf of the caliph besieged them in one of the positions and killed all those present with him to the last man. To God be praise and favor. In this year al-Faḍl b. Isḥāq al-ʿAbbāsī led the people in the pilgrimage.
