The Year 261 AH
وِلَايَةِ أَبِي السَّاجِ الْأَهْوَازَ وَفِي سنة إحدى وستين ومائتين وَلِيَ أَبُو السَّاجِ الْأَهْوَازَ، بَعْدَ مَسِيرَةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْهَا إِلَى فَارِسَ، وَأَمَرَ بِمُحَارَبَةِ الزَّنْجِ، فَسَيَّرَ صِهْرَهُ ( عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ) لِمُحَارَبَةِ الزَّنْجِ، فَلَقِيَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبَانٍ بِنَاحِيَةِ دَوْلَابَ، فَقُتِلَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَانْحَازَ أَبُو السَّاجِ إِلَى نَاحِيَةِ عَسْكَرِ مُكْرَمٍ، وَدَخَلَ الزَّنْجُ الْأَهْوَازَ، فَقَتَلُوا أَهْلَهَا، وَسَبَوْا وَأَحْرَقُوا. ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ أَبُو السَّاجِ عَمَّا كَانَ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْأَهْوَازِ، وَحَرْبِ الزَّنْجِ، وَوَلَّاهَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ سِيمَا، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ بِهَا حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ عَنْهَا مَعَ مُوسَى بْنِ بُغَا. وَفِيهَا وَلِيَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ طَرِيقَ خُرَاسَانَ.
Translation
✧ The governorship of Abū al-Sāj over al-Ahwāz In the year 261 AH, Abū al-Sāj was appointed governor of al-Ahwāz, after ʿAbd al-Raḥmān departed from it to Fāris. He was ordered to fight the Zanj, so he sent his son-in-law (ʿAbd al-Raḥmān) to fight the Zanj. ʿAlī b. Abān met him in the area of Dawlāb, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān was killed. Abū al-Sāj withdrew to the area of ʿAskar Mukram, and the Zanj entered al-Ahwāz, killing its people, taking captives, and burning. Then Abū al-Sāj departed from his post over al-Ahwāz and the war against the Zanj, and it was given to Ibrāhīm b. Sīmā. He remained there until he left with Mūsā b. Bughā. In this year, Muḥammad b. Aws al-Balkhī was appointed over the road to Khurāsān.
