Translation
✧ The reappearance of Ibn al-Ṣūfī in Egypt for the second time In this year, Ibn al-Ṣūfī al-ʿAlawī returned and appeared in Egypt. We have already mentioned in the year two hundred and fifty-six his appearance and his flight to the oases, when he took charge of himself and summoned the people to himself. A great multitude followed him, and he marched with them to al-Ashmūnayn. An army was dispatched against him, commanded by a leader known as Ibn Abī al-Ghayth, who found that he had gone up to meet Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʿUmarī, as we shall mention later. When the ʿAlawī reached al-ʿUmarī, the two met, and there was fierce fighting between them. The encounter resulted in the defeat of the ʿAlawī, and he fled defeated to Aswān, where he wrought havoc and cut down many of its palm trees. Ibn Ṭūlūn then sent an army against him and ordered that he be sought wherever he might be. The army marched in pursuit of him, and he fled to ʿAydhāb, crossed the sea to Makkah, and his companions dispersed. When he reached Makkah, news of him reached its governor, who arrested him and imprisoned him, then sent him to Ibn Ṭūlūn. When he arrived in Egypt, orders were given that he be paraded through the city, then he was imprisoned for a period and released. He then returned to al-Madīnah and remained there until he died.
