✧ The Zanj Enter al-Ahwāz In the year 259 AH, in Rajab, the Zanj entered al-Ahwāz. The reason was that al-ʿAlawī dispatched ʿAlī b. Abān al-Muhallabī and attached to him the army that had been with Yaḥyā b. Muḥammad al-Baḥrānī and Sulaymān b. Mūsā al-Shaʿrānī, and sent him to al-Ahwāz. The governor of it after Manṣūr b. Jaʿfar was a man called Aṣʿajūr. News of the Zanj reached him, so he went out to them, and the two armies met at Dasht Maysān. Aṣʿajūr was routed, and Thayrak was killed with him, and many of his companions were wounded. Aṣʿajūr drowned, and many were taken captive, among them al-Ḥasan b. Harthama and al-Ḥasan b. Jaʿfar. The heads, banners, and captives were carried to the Wicked One, and he ordered the captives to be imprisoned. The Zanj entered al-Ahwāz and remained there wreaking corruption and committing excesses until Mūsā b. Bughā arrived.
