Translation

✧ Mention of several events In the year two hundred and fifty-four, Abū Aḥmad b. al-Rashīd died. He was the paternal uncle of al-Wāthiq and al-Mutawakkil, and the paternal uncle of Abū al-Muntaṣir, al-Mustaʿīn, and al-Muʿtazz. With him among the caliphs were his brothers al-Amīn, al-Maʾmūn, and al-Muʿtaṣim; the sons of his brother, al-Wāthiq and al-Mutawakkil, the two sons of al-Muʿtaṣim; and the sons of his brother’s sons, namely al-Muntaṣir, al-Mustaʿīn, and al-Muʿtazz. In it, Ṣāliḥ b. Waṣīf appointed Diyūdād over the provinces of Egypt, Qinnasrīn, and the frontier fortresses. In it, Mufliḥ fell upon the people of Qumm and inflicted a great slaughter among them. (And in it, the people of Mārida in the land of al-Andalus renewed their opposition to Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the ruler of al-Andalus. The reason for that was that they had previously rebelled against his father, who had overcome them, and many of its inhabitants had dispersed. Now those who had left it gathered again, and they returned to opposition and disobedience. Muḥammad marched against them, besieged them, and pressed them hard, so they submitted and obeyed. He transferred them and their wealth to Cordoba, demolished the wall of Mārida, and fortified there only the place where the governors dwelt, to the exclusion of others. In it, Ardūn b. Rudmīr, lord of Galicia in al-Andalus, perished, and Udfūnush, who was twelve years old, was appointed in his place. In it, the moon was eclipsed with a total eclipse, leaving nothing of it visible. In it, there was a severe drought in the land of al-Andalus, which continued upon them from the year two hundred and fifty-one to the year two hundred and fifty-five, and God relieved them.) In it, Dulaf b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Dulaf al-ʿIjlī reached al-Ahwāz, Jundaysābūr, and Tustar, and collected there two hundred thousand dinars, then departed. His father had ordered him to do that. In Ramaḍān, Nūsharā marched against Musāwir al-Shārī, met him, routed him, and killed a great number of his companions. And in the year two hundred and fifty-four, ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl b. al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad led the pilgrimage for the people.
