وَقْعَةٍ بَيْنَ مُسَاوِرٍ الْخَارِجِيِّ وَبَيْنَ عَسْكَرِ الْمَوْصِلِ كَانَ مُسَاوِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ قَدِ اسْتَوْلَى عَلَى أَكْثَرِ أَعْمَالِ الْمَوْصِلِ وَقَوِيَ أَمْرُهُ، فَجَمَعَ لَهُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ الْعَدَوِيُّ التَّغْلِبِيُّ - وَكَانَ خَلِيفَةَ أَبِيهِ بِالْمَوْصِلِ - عَسْكَرًا كَثِيرًا مِنْهُمْ حَمْدَانُ بْنُ حَمْدُونَ جَدُّ الْأُمَرَاءِ الْحَمْدَانِيَّةِ، وَغَيْرُهُ، وَسَارَ إِلَى مُسَاوِرٍ وَعَبَرَ إِلَيْهِ نَهَرَ الزَّابِ، فَتَأَخَّرَ عَنْهُ مُسَاوِرٌ عَنْ مَوْضِعِهِ، وَنَزَلَ بِمَوْضِعٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي الذِّيَاتِ، وَهُوَ وَادٍ عَمِيقٌ، فَسَارَ الْحَسَنُ فِي طَلَبِهِ، فَالْتَقَوْا فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى، وَاقْتَتَلُوا، وَاشْتَدَّ الْقِتَالُ، فَانْهَزَمَ عَسْكَرُ الْمَوْصِلِ، وَكَثُرَ الْقَتْلُ فِيهِمْ، وَسَقَطَ كَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فِي الْوَادِي، فَهَلَكَ فِيهِ أَكْثَرُ مِنَ الْقَتْلَى، وَنَجَا الْحَسَنُ فَوَصَلَ إِلَى حَزَّةَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ إِرْبِلَ الْيَوْمَ، وَنَجَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ السَّيِّدِ، فَظَنَّ الْخَوَارِجُ أَنَّهُ الْحَسَنُ فَتَبِعُوهُ، وَكَانَ فَارِسًا شُجَاعًا فَقَاتَلَهُمْ فَقُتِلَ، وَاشْتَدَّ أَمْرُ مُسَاوِرٍ وَعَظُمَ شَأْنُهُ وَخَافَهُ النَّاسُ.
Translation
✧ A battle between Musāwir al-Khārijī and the army of al-Mawṣil Musāwir b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd had taken control of most of the districts of al-Mawṣil and his affair had grown strong. Al-Ḥasan b. Ayyūb b. Aḥmad b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb al-ʿAdawī al-Taghlibī — who was the deputy of his father in al-Mawṣil — gathered for him a large army, among them Ḥamdān b. Ḥamdūn, the ancestor of the Ḥamdānid emirs, and others, and marched against Musāwir and crossed the river al-Zāb to him. Musāwir withdrew from his position before him and encamped at a place called Wādī al-Dhiyāt, which is a deep valley. Al-Ḥasan marched in pursuit of him, and they met in Jumādā al-Ūlā and fought. The fighting intensified, and the army of al-Mawṣil was routed. Many were killed among them, and many of them fell into the valley, and more perished in it than were slain. Al-Ḥasan escaped and reached Ḥazza, one of the districts of Irbil today. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. al-Sayyid escaped, but the Kharijites thought that he was al-Ḥasan and followed him. He was a brave horseman and fought them and was killed. Musāwir's affair intensified, his status grew great, and the people feared him.
