✧ The Taking of Karaj from Abū Dulaf In the year two hundred and fifty-three, al-Muʿtazz appointed Mūsā b. Bughā al-Kabīr in Rajab over al-Jabal. Mufliḥ advanced at the head of his vanguard. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Dulaf met him outside Hamadhān, and they fought. With ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz were more than twenty thousand from among the brigands and others, but ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz was defeated and his companions were killed. In Ramaḍān, Mufliḥ marched toward Karaj and set two ambushes for him. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz dispatched an army of four thousand. Mufliḥ fought them, and the two ambushes came out against ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz's companions. They were defeated, killed, and captured. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz came to aid his companions but was routed along with them. He abandoned Karaj and went to a fortress of his called Zurr, where he fortified himself. Mufliḥ entered Karaj and seized ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz's family, including his mother. They sent to the caliph seventy loads of heads and many banners, and the territories that ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz had seized from the caliph's lands were recovered.
