✧ The Strife in Samarra In the year two hundred and forty-nine, in Rabiʿ al-Awwal, a group of people—it is not known who they were—rose up in Samarra. They opened the prison and brought out those who were in it. A party of mawali was sent in pursuit of them, but the common people rose against them and routed them. Bugha, Utamish, and Wasif, along with the generality of the Turks, mounted and killed a number of the common people. Wasif was struck by a stone, so he ordered that place to be burned, and the Maghariba were plundered. Then that subsided at the end of the day.
