His messenger arrived in Baghdad on Friday to Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm, but he did not make it public, and he prayed for al-Muʿtaṣim on the pulpits of Baghdad while he was dead. When the next day, Saturday, came, Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm ordered the Hāshimīs, the commanders, and the people to attend the palace of the Commander of the Faithful, so they attended, and he read his letter to the people announcing the death of his father and took the oath of allegiance, and the people swore allegiance.
