The Year 218 AH
[أَمْرُ الْمُعْتَصِمِ بِهَدْمِ مَا كَانَ الْمَأْمُونُ بَنَاهُ بِطَوَانَةَ] وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: أَمَرَ الْمُعْتَصِمُ بِهَدْمِ مَا كَانَ الْمَأْمُونُ بَنَاهُ بِطَوَانَةَ، وَحَمَلَ مَا كَانَ بِهَا مِنَ السِّلَاحِ وَالْآلَةِ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا قُدِرَ عَلَى حَمْلِهِ، وَإِحْرَاقِ مَا لَمْ يُقْدَرْ عَلَى حَمْلِهِ، وَأَمَرَ بِصَرْفِ مَنْ كَانَ الْمَأْمُونُ أَسْكَنَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ إِلَى بِلَادِهِمْ. وَفِيهَا: دَخَلَ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ هَمَذَانَ، وَأَصْبَهَانَ، وَمَاسَبْذَانَ، وَمَهْرَجَانِ قَذْقَ فِي دِينِ الْخَرْمِيَّةِ، وَتَجَمَّعُوا فَعَسْكَرُوا فِي عَمَلِ هَمَذَانَ، فَوَجَّهَ الْمُعْتَصِمُ إِلَيْهِمْ عَسْكَرًا، وَكَانَ آخِرُ عَسْكَرٍ وَجَّهَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ مَعَ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ، وَعَقَدَ لَهُ عَلَى الْجِبَالِ فِي شَوَّالَ فَشَخَصَ إِلَيْهِمْ فِي ذِي الْقِعْدَةِ، وَقُرِئَ كِتَابُهُ بِالْفَتْحِ يَوْمَ التَّرْوِيَةِ، وَقَتَلَ فِي عَمَلِ هَمَذَانَ سِتِّينَ أَلْفًا وَهَرَبَ بَاقِيهِمْ إِلَى بِلَادِ الرُّومِ. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: صَالِحُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَضَحَّى أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، وَأَهْلُ بَغْدَادَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ.
Translation
✧ [THE AFFAIR OF AL-MUʿTAṢIM’S ORDER TO DEMOLISH WHAT AL-MAʾMŪN HAD BUILT AT ṬUWĀNAH] In this year, al-Muʿtaṣim ordered the demolition of what al-Maʾmūn had built at Ṭuwānah, and the carrying away of whatever arms, equipment, and other things there that could be carried, and the burning of what could not be carried. He also ordered the return of the people whom al-Maʾmūn had settled there to their own lands. In it, a group of the people of Hamadhān, Iṣbahān, Māsabadhān, and Mihrajān Qadhaq entered into the religion of the Khurramiyyah, and they gathered and encamped in the district of Hamadhān. Al-Muʿtaṣim sent an army against them. The last army he sent against them was with Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm b. Muṣʿab, and he appointed him over al-Jibāl in Shawwāl. He set out against them in Dhū al-Qaʿdah, and his letter reporting victory was read on the Day of Tarwiyah. He killed in the district of Hamadhān sixty thousand, and the rest of them fled to the land of the Byzantines. In this year, the people were led in pilgrimage by Ṣāliḥ b. al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad. The people of Makkah performed the sacrifice on Friday, and the people of Baghdad on Saturday.
