ذِكْرُ الْوَقْعَةِ بِالْمَوْصِلِ الْمَعْرُوفَةِ بِالْمَيْدَانِ وَفِيهَا كَانَتِ الْوَقْعَةُ الْمَعْرُوفَةُ بِالْمَيْدَانِ بِالْمَوْصِلِ بَيْنَ الْيَمَانِيَّةِ وَالنِّزَارِيَّةِ، وَكَانَ سَبَبَهَا أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ نُعَيْمٍ الْبُرْجُمِيَّ صَارَ إِلَى دِيَارِ مُضَرَ، فَشَكَا الْأَزْدَ وَالْيَمَنَ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ يَتَهَضَّمُونَنَا، وَيَغْلِبُونَنَا عَلَى حُقُوقِنَا، وَاسْتَنْصَرَهُمْ، فَسَارَ مَعَهُ إِلَى الْمَوْصِلِ مَا يُقَارِبُ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، وَهُوَ حِينَئِذٍ تَغَلَّبَ عَلَى الْمَوْصِلِ، فَسَأَلَهُمْ عَنْ حَالِهِمْ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ، فَأَجَابَهُمْ إِلَى مَا يُرِيدُونَ، فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ عُثْمَانُ ذَلِكَ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلِيٌّ مِنَ الْبَلَدِ فِي نَحْوِ أَرْبَعَةِ آلَافِ رَجُلٍ، فَالْتَقَوْا، وَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا، عِدَّةَ وَقَائِعَ، فَكَانَتِ الْهَزِيمَةُ عَلَى النِّزَارِيَّةِ، وَظَفِرَ بِهِمْ عَلِيٌّ وَقَتَلَ مِنْهُمْ خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا، وَعَادَ إِلَى الْبَلَدِ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the battle at al-Mawṣil known as al-Maydān In this year occurred the battle known as al-Maydān at al-Mawṣil between the Yamāniyya and the Nizāriyya. Its cause was that ʿUthmān b. Nuʿaym al-Burjumī went to the abodes of Muḍar and complained of the Azd and Yemen, saying: “They wrong us and overpower us in our rights,” and he sought their support. With him there marched to al-Mawṣil nearly twenty thousand men. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan al-Hamdānī, who at that time had gained control of al-Mawṣil, sent to them and asked about their situation. They informed him, and he responded to them with what they wanted, but ʿUthmān did not accept that. So ʿAlī went out from the city against them with about four thousand men. They met and fought a severe fight, in several engagements. The defeat fell upon the Nizāriyya, and ʿAlī prevailed over them and killed a great number of them, then returned to the city.
