Translation

✧ The rebellion of the people of Mārida against al-Ḥakam and what he did to the people of Cordoba In the year one hundred and ninety-one, Aṣbagh b. ʿAbd Allāh rebelled, and the people of the city of Mārida in al-Andalus agreed with him against al-Ḥakam. They expelled his governor. When the news reached al-Ḥakam, he marched there and besieged it. While he was pressing the siege hard, news came to him about the people of Cordoba that they had openly rebelled against him. He returned hastily, reaching Cordoba in three days. He uncovered those who had stirred up the strife, crucified them upside down, and struck the necks of a group. The rest were deterred by that, and their hatred of him grew intense. The people of Mārida continued, now obeying and now rebelling, until the year one hundred and ninety-two. Then Aṣbagh's affair weakened, because al-Ḥakam kept sending armies against him and won over a group of the notables of Mārida and trusted men among his companions. They inclined to him and abandoned Aṣbagh, even his own brother. Aṣbagh became bewildered and his spirit weakened, so he sent to seek safe-conduct. Al-Ḥakam granted him amnesty, so he left Mārida and presented himself before al-Ḥakam, residing with him in Cordoba.
