Translation
✧ Summary of the creation of the angels and their attributes (peace be upon them). The verses mentioning the angels are very numerous. He (Most High) describes them as possessing strength in worship and in creation, beauty of appearance, greatness of forms, and powerful shape in their multiple images. They were created from light. Among the most well-known of the angels is Jibrīl ﷺ, the trustee of revelation. He has six hundred wings, and between every two wings is a distance like that between the east and the west. No one can count the number of the angels except Allah. It has come in a ḥadīth: "Then the Frequented House (al-Bayt al-Maʿmūr) was raised for me, and there it was: seventy thousand angels enter it every day, then they do not return to it until the last of them." Al-Bayt al-Maʿmūr is a mosque in the heaven called al-Ḍurāḥ. It is directly above the Kaʿbah, and its sanctity in the heaven is like the sanctity of the House on earth. There is no place in the seven heavens but that it is occupied by angels, and they are engaged in various kinds of worship. Among them are those who remain standing forever, among them are those who remain bowing forever, among them are those who remain prostrating forever, and among them are those engaged in other kinds of worship that Allah knows best. They are constant in their worship, glorification, remembrance, and the works that Allah has commanded them. They have stations before their Lord. Likewise, Isrāfīl is one of the bearers of the Throne. He is the one who will blow the Trumpet (al-Ṣūr) by the command of his Lord, with three blasts: the first is the blast of terror, the second is the blast of swooning, and the third is the blast of resurrection. Mīkāʾīl is entrusted with the rain and vegetation. He has a station before his Lord (Mighty and Majestic), and he is one of the noble angels brought near. The Angel of Death has not been explicitly named in the Qurʾān. Among the angels are Munkar and Nakīr, and many others besides them. Thus the angels are of several kinds. Among them are the bearers of the Throne: indeed one of Allah's angels, one of the bearers of the Throne, has a distance from the lobe of his ear to his shoulder of seven hundred years' journey. Among them are the Cherubim (al-Karūbiyyūn) and the Guardians (al-Ḥafaẓah), in addition to many other kinds of them. Some of the people of knowledge disagreed concerning the superiority between the angels and the righteous of the children of Adam: which of them is more honored before Allah (Most High).
