The story of Zakariyyā and Yaḥyā (peace be upon them both)

Translation

✧ The story of the Prophet of Allah Yaḥyā b. Zakariyyā (peace be upon them both) Yaḥyā ﷺ was born six months before the Messiah ﷺ, and his parents named him Yaḥyā, and no one before him had been given this name. Allah granted him wisdom while he was still a child. He said: Maʿmar said: The children said to Yaḥyā b. Zakariyyā: “Come with us and play.” He said: “We were not created for play.” His qualities were tenderness toward his family, purity of character, transcendence above faults, dutifulness to his parents, and he was not arrogant or disobedient. He was much secluded from people, finding comfort in the wilderness, eating the leaves of trees, drinking from rivers, and at times feeding on locusts, saying: “Who has been given more blessings than you, O Yaḥyā?” Allah, exalted is He, has conveyed peace upon him on the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he is raised alive. On the authority of Saʿīd b. al-Musayyib, Ibn al-ʿĀṣ narrated to me that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Every son of Adam will come on the Day of Resurrection with a sin, except what was of Yaḥyā b. Zakariyyā, for he was a master and chaste.” Allah, exalted is He, sent him with five words to act upon and to command the Children of Israel to act upon them. He ﷺ was killed by slaughter for the sake of a profligate woman, and it is said otherwise, and his blood continued to boil until Bukht Naṣṣar came and it occurred to his heart to kill for him, and he killed seventy thousand of the Children of Israel for the blood until it subsided.
