Then the year 147 AH began

ذِكْرُ عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ وَلَّى الْمَنْصُورُ مُحَمَّدًا ابْنَ أَخِيهِ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ السَّفَّاحِ الْبَصْرَةَ، فَاسْتَعْفَى مِنْهَا ، فَأَعْفَاهُ، فَانْصَرَفَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ وَاسْتَخْلَفَ بِهَا نُخْبَةَ بْنَ سَالِمٍ، فَأَقَرَّهُ الْمَنْصُورُ عَلَيْهَا، فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ مَاتَ بِهَا. وَكَانَ عَامِلُ الْمَنْصُورِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ عَلَى مَكَّةَ وَالطَّائِفِ عَمَّهُ عَبْدَ الصَّمَدِ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ، وَعَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ، وَعَلَى الْكُوفَةِ وَأَرْضِهَا مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ، وَعَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، وَعَلَى قَضَائِهَا سَوَّارَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، وَعَلَى مِصْرَ يَزِيدَ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ.

Translation

✧ Mention of several events In this year, al-Manṣūr appointed Muḥammad, the son of his brother Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Saffāḥ, over al-Baṣrah, but he asked to be excused from it, so he excused him. He then departed to Baghdādh and appointed as his deputy over it Nukhbah b. Sālim, and al-Manṣūr confirmed him over it. When he returned to Baghdādh, he died there. Al-Manṣūr's governor in this year over Makkah and al-Ṭāʾif was his paternal uncle ʿAbd al-Ṣamad b. ʿAlī, and over al-Madīnah was Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān, and over al-Kūfah and its land was Muḥammad b. Sulaymān, and over al-Baṣrah was ʿUqbah b. Sālim, and over its judiciary was Sawwār b. ʿAbd Allāh, and over Miṣr was Yazīd b. Ḥātim.
