The story of Sulaymān b. Dāwūd (peace be upon them both)
Translation
✧ More than one of the Salaf mentioned that Sulaymān had a thousand wives; seven hundred with dowries, and three hundred concubines. And it was said in reverse: three hundred free women and seven hundred slave women. He was capable of tremendous enjoyment of women indeed. Al-Bukhārī said: from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: Sulaymān b. Dāwūd said: 'I will surely go around tonight to seventy women, each woman will bear a horseman who will fight in the path of God.' His companion said to him: 'If God wills.' But he did not say it, and none of them bore anything except one who bore a deformed child with one side missing. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Had he said it, they would have fought in the path of God.' And Shuʿayb and Ibn Abī al-Zinād said: 'ninety.' And that is more correct. Al-Bukhārī alone transmitted it from this route.
