Then the year 141 AH began
ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سُنَّةُ إِحْدَى وَأَرْبَعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ فَمِنَ الْحَوَادِثِ فِيهَا: قُدُومُ الْمَنْصُورِ مِنَ الْحَجِّ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، ثُمَّ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ، فَصَلَّى فِيهِ، ثُمَّ انْحَدَرَ إِلَى الرَّقَّةِ، وَقُتِلَ بِهَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ جَعْوَنَةَ، لِأَنَّ الْمَنْصُورَ قَالَ: احْمَدُوا اللَّهَ يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ، فَقَدْ رُفِعَ عَنْكُمْ بِوِلَايَتِنَا الطَّاعُونُ. فَقَالَ مَنْصُورٌ: اللَّهُ أَكْرَمُ مِنْ أَنْ يَجْمَعَكَ عَلَيْنَا وَالطَّاعُونَ. ثُمَّ انْحَدَرَ مِنَ الشَّامِ إِلَى شَطِّ الْفُرَاتِ حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْهَاشِمِيَّةُ بِالْكُوفَةِ.
Translation
✧ Then the year 141 AH began. Among the events in it: The arrival of al-Manṣūr from the pilgrimage to al-Madīnah, then to Jerusalem, and he prayed in it, then he descended to al-Raqqah, and Manṣūr b. Jaʿwanah was killed there, because al-Manṣūr said: "Praise God, O people of Syria, for the plague has been lifted from you through our governance." Manṣūr said: "God is too generous to combine you over us and the plague." Then he descended from Syria to the bank of the Euphrates until he alighted at al-Hāshimiyyah near al-Kūfah.
